If you haven’t been living under a rock, you would have binge-watched Netflix’s Bling Empire by now, which stars a cast of wealthy Asians living in Los Angeles. In the first episode of the series, series "villain" and queen bee Christine Chiu threw a lavish Chinese New Year party that took over Beverly Hills.
While a huge party wasn’t possible this year due to the pandemic, the cast still managed to ring in the Year of the Ox in true Bling Empire fashion. Take a look below.
CHERIE CHAN
The series’ sweetheart hosted an intimate gathering for the Bling Empire cast. And instead of oranges for the guests, she gave out Hermes gifts in orange paper bags (they’re the same, right?!) The heiress was also celebrating her birthday, and according to her Instagram stories, there was a karaoke session with fellow cast members Kelly and Kane.
CHRISTINE CHIU
There was no huge party for the couture queen this year. Instead, Christine and her husband Dr Gabriel Chu brought their son Baby G to Chinatown for the first time.
“As Angelenos of Chinese heritage, Chinatown LA offers many opportunities to have meaningful discussions about segregation, perseverance, community activism, arts, architecture and cinema. While walking through the beautiful pagoda-style buildings and under red lanterns of New Chinatown, popping confetti and noshing of traditional Chinese pastries, we are reminded of how far we’ve come and how much more we have to go,” she wrote on Instagram.
JAIME XIE
Jaime Xie, the daughter of a tech billionaire, is a fashion influencer known for her impeccable style. For Chinese New Year, she posted a photo of herself dressed in a red sequined dress by French haute couture label, Alexandre Vauthier. By the way, Jaime is also celebrating her zodiac year this year. “P.S, I was born in the Year of the Ox,” she revealed in her Instagram post.
KANE LIM
The Singaporean fashion plate and designer shoe collector isn’t back in the Lion City for Chinese New Year this year. Instead, he posted a throwback photo with fellow cast member Kim Lee on his Instagram, taken at Christine’s 2019 bash, along with one of his iconic quotes from the show.
“During the white new year, you wake up with a hangover, for the Lunar New Year, you wake up with money,” he wrote. “Wishing everyone a prosperous Year of the Ox filled with love, health and wealth.”
KEVIN KREIDER
In typical Kevin Kreider style, the model posted a photo of his umm, abs, to ring in the Year of the Ox. His word of advice for the new year? “Learn a new skill and move forward,” he wrote. “There will be many haters but move forward anyway. Don’t prove them right.”
KELLY MI LI
Entrepreneur and film producer Kelly Mi Li got dressed up for the occasion. She posted a photo of herself in a red dress, walking down the streets of Chinatown. “Lunar New Year has always been a very big holiday in my life growing up,” she wrote. “I’m so excited for what this year has in store for us and am wishing everyone good fortune, health and happiness!”
