One of the oldest distilleries in Scotland’s region of Speyside, The Glenlivet distillery was founded in 1824 by George Smith, who was initially dabbling with illicit distillation before turning his business legal. Since then, the distillery has ridden the tumultuous periods of history, from The Great Depression to World War II, to become one of Speyside’s most iconic single malt producers.
Apart from its core range of single malts, The Glenlivet also releases limited editions of rare whiskies aged in a variety of casks. The Glenlivet Single Cask Edition 15 Year Old – bottled in February 2020 from Cask No. 202422 – is the latest limited edition of the distillery’s single cask release, which has been much sought-after by whisky collectors.

Alan Winchester, who took over as the distillery’s master distiller in 2009, is the man behind the meticulous selection of The Glenlivet Single Cask Editions. Previous editions of the whisky were sourced from a variety of barrels, such as American oak and sherry butts.
For the current edition, Winchester drew the whisky from a first-fill American oak barrel and bottled it at cask strength without putting it through chill filtration to retain its original flavour.
Most whiskies are not bottled at cask strength, meaning they have been diluted with water to bring down their alcohol by volume. Chill filtration is the process of removing residue and cloudiness from whiskies.
As no two single casks taste the same, The Glenlivet Single Cask Edition 15 Year Old offers a singular, unique expression that can’t be replicated.

According to its tasting notes, this single cask edition offers a rich and complex sip: The bouquet exudes a potpourri of traditional pear drop sweets, fresh lemon sherbet, and juicy honeydew melon. On the palate, one can expect notes of baked apple pie and ripe pears, followed by accents of smooth vanilla cream and warm ginger, and a long, smooth finish.
The Glenlivet Single Cask Edition 15 Year Old retails for S$409, and is sold by wine and spirits group Pernod Ricard via its exclusive LeCercle platform for members.
