Pre-pandemic, New Year’s Eve celebrations often meant big crowds and big parties. But this year, counting down to 2021 will be a slightly more muted affair. If you’re a homebody, you might choose to stay in. After all, staying home means you’ll be closer to your bed at the stroke of midnight.

If you do intend to fill your days with something other than binge-watching television, here are some ideas for the long weekend.

MAKE YOUR OWN FESTIVE COCKTAILS

Get into the celebratory mood by making your own festive cocktails. Stock up on all your favourite spirits and mixers, and to elevate the experience, have an array of cocktail garnishes such as cinnamon sticks, lemon slices and sugar cubes to experiment with.

If you need some help, Hendrick’s Gin has a series of How-to Videos on its YouTube channel that will teach you how to create several types of cocktails, as well as wondrous cucumber decorations. Each bottle of Hendrick’s retails from S$77 and is available on LazMall, Shopee Mall and The 1887 Bar on GrabMart.

DRESS UP

New Year’s Eve may have been the day you threw on your sparkliest clothes. You can still dress up this year, albeit with more comfortable, yet stylish loungewear. Take inspiration from Dior’s Chez Moi capsule collection, the maison’s first collection dedicated to loungewear. The collection features pyjama sets, bathrobes and ponchos – imbued with elegant fantasy motifs characteristic of Dior.

HOST CLOSE FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Now that Phase 3 is here, you can have additional guests at home (limited to eight). So why not gather your nearest and dearest? HAVE AN EPIC GAME NIGHT

Aside from the food, the best thing about gatherings are the games. Keep your guests engaged with games such as charades, or even truth or dare. You might also want to prepare some board games to get the party going. With all the recent hype surrounding Netflix’s hit series The Queen’s Gambit, now might even be a good time to try playing chess with friends.
