Time and time again, Singapore has reaffirmed its status as one of the best Asian cities for dining out. If you’re on the prowl for new, exciting eats, here are two buzzy newcomers to the culinary scene you’ll want to check out.

CLOS PASOH

There’s a new French restaurant in town, headed by chef Louis Pacquelin, of the now-shuttered BBR by Alain Ducasse. Clos Pasoh, a contemporary French brasserie, is tucked away on the second floor of a heritage building in Bukit Pasoh. Filled with lush greenery, the restaurant is an oasis in the city.

Here, Pacquelin has embarked on what he calls a new-school approach to French cuisine. Classic French dishes are served in a new light. Tete de veau, for example, is a traditional dish that features whole calf’s head, which can be unappetising to diners. At Clos Pasoh, Pacquelin presents the dish as crispy fried dumplings, served alongside fresh wasabi instead of the usual ravigote sauce.

The restaurant also boasts an extensive wine list of around 1,500 labels. It includes classic, sought-after gems, as well as lesser-known wines that offer a fresh perspective.

Clos Pasoh is located at 48A Bukit Pasoh Rd, Level 2, Singapore 089859

SOMMER

Helmed by chef Lewis Barker (formerly of Bacchanalia and Vianney Massot), Sommer is the hottest new fine-dining restaurant in the city. Located at Marina Bay, the modern European restaurant showcases the best of seasonal produce.

Diners can choose between three menus – Discovery, Inspiration and Experience. The menus are a tribute to nature’s diversity, where Lewis deftly infuses techniques gleaned from his years spent in fine-dining kitchens, including Michelin-starred restaurants across England, Australia and Singapore.

Expect oysters crowned with apple sorbet, mackerel served on homemade crumpet, dry-aged duck seasoned with five spices and more when dining in this elegant 28-seater restaurant.
